CNN: 6 in 10 Americans believe Huawei War politics

NSA and friends do have a reason to get rid of Huawei: Nokia and Ericsson are much more cooperative, as confirmed by the Snowdon papers. If Huawei doesn’t cooperate with the Chinese government for espionage, it certainly doesn’t help the Americans.
Everyone else, including Britain’s former top spook, are pretty certain Huawei isn’t spying. An unscientific survey by Richard Quest at CNN found 61% of the responders to an online poll thought the war on Huawei was about politics. Only 24% believed Trump’s claim he was protecting national security.

I’ve reported about Huawei since 2004 when they were still unknown in the West. Paul Reynolds of British Telecom told me they were doing exceptional things. They now are twice the size of any other telecom vendor.

Huawei people are extremely competitive, remarkably hardworking, and very, very good at what they do. “No one is perfect,” the butler said, and neither are any companies this size. On balance, they have been at least as honourable as peers in the West.

I have a major conflict of interest. Huawei and other companies have paid my expenses to events and contracted with the research company I did some work with. I will do my best to do accurate reporting.

Editor’s bias. Like most humans, I have biases. My job is to overcome my bias and get close to the truth. Readers deserve to know my biases.
Huawei has earned my respect but I will print a negative story if I discover one.
China has earned my respect for bringing 400 million people away from the edge of starvation. But I also know how many died in 1959 and 1965, as well as the extreme measures the country is taking against those who disapprove of the government.
